Working from the Heart

A couple of days ago, I was watching a rerun of Top Chef and chanced upon an episode (Season 3, Episode 9) where the chefs had to cook a buffet of food inspired by current day heroes from four branches of the armed services. These heroes were members of the Army, Navy, etc. The chefs really tried their best to please their “hero” at the same time show their culinary skills in the kitchen.

What was so inspiring about that episode was when Chef Floyd cooked for Eric, a young Army Captain. Although the wife advised him that the Captain wasn’t into spices, he still did the best he could to come up with a sumptuous buffet. In the end, the Captain gave him an Army coin to show his appreciation of the Chef’s hard work.

It was that time that I learned that giving coins as tokens, such as what happened in that episode, is a big thing. That exchange, of the Chef’s service and the coin from the Captain, was enough for the Chef to proclaim himself a winner, despite the show not ending yet.

This has let me to find the best Army coins available online just so I’ll never forget this very touching episode. Have you seen this episode? Did it touch your heart as well?
